Factory Device Operating system(FDOS)

This standard operating procedure explains how to set up and reconfigure an FDSTA standalone device running Factory Device Operating System (FDOS). It is intended for operators, technicians, and support personnel who need a clear, repeatable process for initial configuration, server connection, localization, application installation, and later reconfiguration.

Prerequisites and Additional Information

Prerequisites

  • Have the device powered on and accessible.

  • Obtain the required network settings from your IT administrator if using a static IP address.

  • Obtain the target server IP address and port before starting setup.

  • Know which application must be installed: Vision Client Launcher or Perspective Workstation.

Additional Information

  • Wizard mode is designed for both first-time users and experienced users.

  • The setup flow guides the user through network configuration, server connection, localization, and application installation.

  • If protocol checks or registration fail, contact the IT department before proceeding.

Procedure

Step 1 - Start the Setup Wizard

The setup begins from the welcome window of the Factory Device Setup wizard.

Review the welcome screen and confirm that the device is ready for configuration.

Click Continue to begin the configuration process.

Step 2 - Configure Network Settings

Establish the device connection to the network using either a static IP address or DHCP.

Enter the required network information: Hostname, IP Address, Netmask, and Default Gateway.

For a static IP configuration, fill in all required fields and click Apply. After confirmation, click Next to continue or Previous to return.

For DHCP, enter the chosen hostname and click Use DHCP. Confirm that the fields populate automatically, then click Next.

Use only the correct network values assigned to the device. Duplicate or incorrect addressing can prevent successful communication.

Step 3 - Connect to the Target Server

Configure server communication and verify that the device can connect successfully.

Step 4 - Set Localization Preferences

Customize regional settings to match the user environment.

Step 5 - Install the Required Application

Choose and install the application required for the device use case.

Step 6 - Finish Setup and Reboot

Complete the setup so that all saved settings are applied.

Do not shut down, power off, or unplug the device during the reboot cycle.

Important: Interrupting the reboot can leave the device incompletely configured.

Reconfiguration of the Device

Use this process when changes are needed after the initial setup.

  1. Click the bottom-left corner of the screen to open the application menu.

  2. Click the Reconfiguration icon.

  3. Follow the same setup flow to update the required settings.

The setup can be accessed again later through the Reconfiguration application.

On-Screen Keyboard (OSK)

The on-screen keyboard can be opened at any time by clicking the keyboard icon.

  • When using the Vision Client application, use the Ignition OSK provided by the developer.

  • For other tasks, use the native operating system on-screen keyboard.
